STAND

STAND, Students Taking A New Direction is a group for middle school students ages 11 to 14 years old. The STAND group looks at concerns of middle school students today and looks for ways to address these concerns. It is designed to bring information to students to help them make positive life choices and stay away from destructive decisions. Besides fun, food, games and teamwork,  STAND has in the past participated in these events:

FIVE COMPONENTS OF STAND

The group meets regularly after school to address these five components in a variety of ways.

Used to enhance their skills that in turn will help them share with their peers information on the risks of alcohol and other drug use.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Provides the opportunity for students to experience the rewards of meaningful participation in commitment to others, in school and in the community.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Will empower parents to create a prevention climate in their homes including ways to talk to their child about feelings, behaviors and drug use, as well as how to reinforce the practice of refusal skills at the home.

SOCIAL ACTIVITY

Puts the fun in STAND, designed for the students to plan and participate in activities for team building, getting to know their peers and to interest others in the group.

SAFETY AWARENESS
